Retired Northern Territory lawyer Geoff James has produced two legal opinion essays. The first is a 1,500-word piece, examining the Gunner Government’s decision to use the Public and Environmental Health Act and emergency health declarations to deal with COVID-19 rather than enacting new legislation. There is also longer, more detailed piece, that looks at the specific wording of the Act, and concludes there is no legal validity to the chief health officer’s Directions NO. 55, colloquially known as the vaccine mandate.
